Prince Rupert preparing for future wastewater treatment project

The City of Prince Rupert is advising residents and visitors that important infrastructure work will begin in mid-August in the Rushbrook Improvement Area.

The Wastewater Outfall Upgrade Project will eliminate Outfall J, a stormwater
outfall located beneath Rushbrook Floats.

This project is designed to improve environmental management in the area by combining wastewater flows from Outfall J into the existing Outfall I system.

This will also caue a temporary closure of the Rushbrook parking lot past the Port Edward Harbour Authority office.

Recreational users of the Rushbrook Trail are encouraged to park in the free
parking lot in Seal Cove.

The city is committed to preserving access to the surrounding area, Veronika Stewart, manager of communications, said.

“Pedestrian access through the area will remain open throughout the project to ensure that residents can continue to enjoy the Rushbrook Trail, the gymnastics facility and area businesses. Individual notices are being shared with these impacted parties as well.”

The boat launch will remain accessible, however, staging may occur adjacent to this area and traffic controls will be in place.

No official project timeline has been provided, meanwhile the city said it will keep the public informed on this project.

“Further details, including timelines and updates related to parking disruptions, will be shared via the city’s website and social media channels as the work progresses, and we appreciate the community’s patience while this necessary work is conducted.”
