A hunter is “lucky to be alive” after falling approximately 90 metres said Prince Rupert Ground Search and Rescue (PRGSAR).
PRGSAR responded to an SOS alert on Aug. 2 that a hunter had fallen down a very steep slope and suffered multiple fractures to his lower limbs.
Jordy Bouillet, president of the Prince Rupert Ground Search and Rescue team, said that being prepared likely saved the hunter’s life.
“We knew where he was because he had activated a personal locator beacon that he had with him. We got the call on Saturday afternoon. From there, they gave us his location—latitude and longitude—and I plugged that into the map system that we have and I could see exactly where he was.”
The PRGSAR said they could have had a vastly different outcome if not for the locator beacon and are advising people to carry a survival kit if they are going out in the backcountry.
