Civic Centre washrooms more accessible following renovations

The City of Prince Rupert has confirmed the renovations on the second floor of the Civic Centre have been completed.

The renovations saw the demolition of the existing bathroom and the installation of new, fully accessible and inclusive amenities.

The new facility includes three gender-neutral and wheelchair-accessible toilets, a wheelchair-accessible shower room and an accessible water bottle filling station outside the washroom.

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond said this project is beneficial for the community.

“These upgrades are part of the City’s ongoing commitment to ensure public spaces are inclusive, accessible, and reflective of the diverse needs of the community. This improvement was a goal of the City’s recently adopted Accessibility Plan, and we’re pleased to be able to deliver on the priorities identified by the community less than a year after it was adopted.”

With these additions, the Civic Centre is now in line with the provincial accessibility and gender equity standards.
