The ms Noordam of Holland America Line was slated to stop in Prince Rupert on Sept. 26 but strong winds in the Inside Passage forced the ship to abort the stop.
Prince Rupert was just one of the stops the Noordam was scheduled to make on the “Round-trip Great Alaska Explorer” in addition to the Alaskan ports of Anchorage, Juneau and Ketchikan.
The Inside Passage had reported wind speeds of nearly 70 kilometres an hour which can cause increased ship instability and create unsafe docking conditions. In Prince Rupert, winds could get as strong as 100 kilometres an hour.
The decision to cancel the Noordam’s call was in the best interest of the ship’s crew and guests. The Noordam is scheduled to return on Oct. 8 at 7 a.m.
