Saving up money to buy a house will take a little bit longer due to the rising cost of homes in Prince Rupert.
The BC Northern Real Estate Board released its quarterly numbers, which revealed a rise in sales across northern B.C. since the previous quarter.
So far this year, 121 houses have been sold in Prince Rupert, totalling $54.5 million. The number of sales is down slightly from 2024, when 126 homes were sold. Despite fewer sales, the total sale price this year is up by $4.3 million, indicating a rise in housing prices.
Eighty-six of the homes sold in Prince Rupert were single-family homes, with half selling for under $460,000. On average, a single-family home spent 56 days on the market before being sold.
The average price of a detached house has gone up by nearly $30,000 since 2023. The BC Northern Real Estate Board said tariffs may play a role in the rising cost of homes.
