COSCO Shipping Europe said in a statement components for the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) project are being transported to Prince Rupert by the MV Kang Sheng Kou.
The Prince Rupert Port Authority began construction of REEF in 2024, with help from its partners Altagas and Royal Vopak, and is expected to be fully operational by late 2026.
REEF is a gas export facility that is designed to export liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and has a capacity of 55,000 barrels per day.
The shipment includes three accumulators, expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The accumulators will keep the LPG cold, maintaining it in liquid form as part of an endothermic process.
Once operational, REEF will deliver Canadian LPG such as propane and butane, along with methanol and clean petroleum products, to markets in Asia.
