U13 Sea Wolves win gold medal on home ice

The Prince Rupert U13 Sea Wolves went a perfect 5-0 during their home tournament from Oct. 24-26 capturing the gold medal.

There were five teams taking part in the tournament consisting of U13 teams from Smithers, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and two teams from Terrace.

The Sea Wolves opened the preliminary round with a 14-2 win over Terrace Blue. The Sea Wolves kept that momentum for their second game as they got a 10-0 shutout victory over Smithers. After a 10-2 win over Terrace Black which earned them a guaranteed spot in the gold-medal match. The Sea Wolves went into their final preliminary game against Kitimat with their spot in the championship confirmed but Kitimat needed a win to earn a spot in the bronze medal game. Despite their best efforts Kitimat lost 5-2 to the Sea Wolves.

The Sea Wolves awaited the winner of Smithers against Terrace Blue as the winner of that match would play for the gold medal. Smithers came out of the game victorious and prepared to face the undefeated Sea Wolves.

Smithers came in to the gold-medal game seeking redemption after a 10-0 loss to the Sea Wolves in the preliminary round, which stood as their only loss in the preliminary round. Smithers wouldn’t get their redemption this time as the Sea Wolves won 8-2 earning the gold medal in dominant fashion.
