Composting facility coming to Skidegate

Residents of Skidegate will have more options for waste disposal with the new community composting facility.

The new composting facility will produce class A compost and provide a curbside collection service to both Skidegate and Daajing Giids residents. The facility will have a waste processing capacity of up to 296 tonnes per year, with local collections having a capacity of up to 148 tonnes per year.

This new facility will benefit both communities and the environment, said North Coast-Haida Gwaii MLA Tamara Davidson.

“This project will help contribute to lower emissions, healthy soil and good, clean jobs for people in Skidegate and Daajing Giids. It’s exciting that this project will be locally led, because rural and remote communities know the needs of their people best.”

The project will be funded by an $850,000 investment from the provincial government.
