A boil water advisory has been put back in place in Prince Rupert just under a month after the last one was lifted.
“Prince Rupert residents and businesses are advised that a boil water notice is now in effect for Prince Rupert until further notice.” said the City of Prince Rupert.
The city said that this boil water advisory was caused by ongoing construction impacts related to the Big Infrastructure Gap (BIG) Project. The BIG project is focused on replacing critical infrastructure such as water mains that are in need of replacement.
Residents are advised to heat their water to a rapid boil for at least one minute if they plan on using it for consumption. Water used for washing clothes or bathing does not need to be boiled.
The city is working hard to rectify this problem, said communications manager Veronika Stewart.
“We are working diligently with Northern Health to safely lift the notice as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience with this matter and will provide updates on our progress as soon as they are available.”
The last boil water advisory was put in place in late August and was rescinded on Oct. 3.
