Sea Wolves sweep home-opening weekend against Vanderhoof Bears

The Prince Rupert under-18 team took to the ice on Nov. 1 and 2 to face the U18 Vanderhoof Bears for their first two home games of the season, facing off against the U18 Vanderhoof Bears.

The Prince Rupert Sea Wolves are hoping to replicate last season’s success of winning the U18 tier four championships and making it all the way to the zone championship match.

The Sea Wolves scored the first two goals of the weekend with Jacob Vendittelli and Owen Davies quickly putting the Sea Wolves up 2-0. Vanderhoof responded with a goal of their own 42 seconds later from Maxton Funk.

In the second, the Sea Wolves added four goals with two from Noah Movold, a Fisher Witzke goal and Owen Davies’ second of the game. The Sea Wolves held a 6-1 lead going into the third. The third period saw both teams exchange goals. The Bears got a goal from Dally Corbiere followed with a hat-trick goal from Noah Movold to make the score 7-2, which stood as the final score.

The second game of the weekend was much tighter. The Sea Wolves struck first again with a Noah Bomben goal. Vanderhoof tied the game with a Dally Corbiere goal but the Sea Wolves restored their lead with an Owen Davies’ goal to send the Sea Wolves into the first intermission leading 2-1.

The Bears’ Liam Ray scored the lone goal of the second to tie the game at two.

In the third period both teams combined for four goals in four minutes. Luca Pirillo and Owen Davies second of the game gave the Sea Wolves a 4-2 lead. The Sea Wolves’ lead didn’t last long as the Bears scored two quick goals with Max Playfair and Dally Corbiere’s second of the game tied it at four.

Kenyan Barry scored the game-winner to make it 5-4. The Bears pressed for the equalizer, but the Sea Wolves defence held firm to secure a sweep of their home-opening weekend.
