Haida Gwaii residents being advised about alleged drink spiking

Allegations of drinks being spiked with foreign substances have been reported around Haida Gwaii, prompting local RCMP to advise residents on how to stay safe.

According to Island Wellness Society, nine community members of all genders were targeted. The RCMP are aware of the allegations and want to ensure the safety of the community, said Daajing Giids RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Chris Manseau.

“There have been some, allegations, and we are working with our strategic partners to make people aware, to keep an eye on their drinks, keep an eye on their friends, make sure that you don’t take anything from any strangers or, have any ill lasting effects from anything.”

Residents are being advised that if they go to a bar not to leave their drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers. The RCMP are urging anyone who suspects drink spiking to report it to police and bar staff.
