Federal Conservatives are frustrated with MP Chris D’entremont after the former Conservative played a pivotal role in passing the budget.
The budget passed by a vote of 170 to 168, with several abstentions and d’Entremont voting in favour — breaking with his former party. Before the budget vote took place the Conservative party was frustrated with the “defection” of Nova Scotia MP Chris D’entremont to the Liberals. That single vote was enough to push the budget through and avoid a potential snap election.
Prior to the vote, the Conservative party made it clear that they would not support the budget, so when D’entremont joined the Liberals Conservatives called it a “political 180.”
D’entremont has let down his constituents, said Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Ellis Ross.
“D’entremont campaigned on a Conservative platform and got elected on a Conservative platform to a Conservative party. But then not long after he crossed the floor to become a Liberal MP. That was his own personal choice. What was printed in the paper basically amounted to personal ambition, wanting to be speaker, not getting elected to be speaker. But that’s really between him and the people who voted him in.” said Ross.
