Ellis Ross reflects on first few months as a Member of Parliament

Ellis Ross was elected to represent the region of Skeena-Bulkley Valley in April and has since been advocating for the region in Ottawa.

Ross was elected as an MP in late April, earning nearly 50 per cent of the total votes cast in the region. Ross campaigned on a conservative platform advocating for more fiscal responsibility and affordability. It was an easy choice to run for a seat with the Conservative Party, said Ross.

“I align so well with the Conservative platform because I do want law and order in Canada. I want repeat offenders put in jail, I don’t want to see them get released into our streets over and over. I want those who abuse or molest children in jail. I don’t want to see law-abiding citizens have their firearms taken away, which is currently happening under this liberal government.”

Before being elected as an MP, Ross served as the MLA for the Skeena region from 2017 to 2024 as a member of the now defunct BC Liberal Party. Ross also served as a councillor and chief councillor of the Haisla Nation from 2003 to 2017. Becoming an MP strengthened his values, said Ross.

“I have the same values I had in the legislature, and I seriously doubt I’m going to change my values. Just because I’m an MP. In fact, if anything, it’s really strengthened my ideas behind economics, crime and government having a good fiscal responsibility, towards not only our deficits and our budgets, but also taxes.”
