U18 Sea Wolves go winless during Sunday doubleheader

The U18 Sea Wolves battled hard against the U18 Terrace Kermodes, but only took one of a possible four points on Sunday.

The Sea Wolves took to the ice for game one on Sunday following a shutout victory against Smithers a week prior. Game one was a low scoring affair with only five goals combined. The first goal of the game was scored 14 minutes into the first when Noah Movold found the back of the net to give the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. The second period didn’t heat up until the final minute when Noah Bomben extended the Sea Wolves lead to two.

During NHL broadcasts, they always say a two goal lead is the worst lead in hockey and that proved accurate in the third period of this game. Terrace scored three unanswered goals from Ryder Hobensheild, Cody Culp and Jaren Monsen that beat Sea Wolves goaltender Ballack Dantas giving them the come from behind victory.

In the second game of the day the Sea Wolves were hoping to respond after giving up a two goal lead in game one. The second game got off to a quick start as Noah Movold gave the Sea Wolves the lead just 19 seconds into the game. Three minutes after the Sea Wolves opened the scoring Ryder Hobensheild put the puck in the net to level the score. Just over a minute after the Hobensheild goal Movold struck again to restore the Sea Wolves lead.

The high-scoring opening period slowed down for three minutes, until Parker Danroth extended the Sea Wolves lead to 3-1. the two-goal lead only lasted 24 seconds as Hobensheild scored his second of the game to make the score 3-2. After Hobensheild’s second goal the first period saw its longest stretch without a goal as just over four minutes expired before Charlie Brown restored the Sea Wolves two goal lead. After the Sea Wolves fourth goal of the period Terrace decided to make a goalie swap to give Aden Beaulieu the reins. After swapping goalies Hobensheild scored two goals in four minutes to tie the game at four for a short time until Owen Davies gave the Sea Wolves a 5-4 lead heading into a much needed break.

After a nine goal first period only one goal would be scored in the next two periods when Gavin Link score to tie the game at five to seal the 5-5 tie.

The Sea Wolves though they scored the game-winning goal late in the third when Terrace goaltender Aden Beaulieu left the net to retrieve his glove after it was knocked away during a battle in front of the net giving the Sea Wolves the open net to deposit the puck. Beaulieu did not like the call as his glove was knocked away by a Sea Wolves skater. After a lengthy conference between the linesmen and referees the goal was overturned.

The Sea Wolves return to action Dec. 20 and 21, when they travel to Vanderhoof
