Daajing Giids RCMP ‘Cram a Cruiser’ fundraiser supports community needs

The Daajing Giids RCMP is spreading joy and filling community needs with their annual “Cram a Cruiser” fundraiser.

With a population of only around 1,000 people, the Village of Daajing Giids and the local RCMP detachment have had incredible success in the ‘Cram a Cruiser” fundraiser over recent years. This fundraiser supports several community organizations.

It is inspiring to see the support and generosity of the community, said Sgt. Chris Manseau, detachment commander of the Daajing Giids RCMP.

“The Daajing Giids Cram a Cruiser fundraiser has been an ongoing event for many years. This event always highlights the enormous generosity of those in our local communities and I’m always blown away by the items donated from our little community. Last year there were more than $25,000 in donations bags that went directly to the food bank, the high school, Skidegate Haida Immersion Program, Alder House, and the senior’s care homes. All money generated at the event stays local, which is why we love being a part of it every year.”

Despite its small size, Daajing Giids has proven to be incredibly generous, Manseau said.

“Although we’re the “cruiser” in cram a cruiser, it’s really the community coming together and donating that makes this the success that it always is. Last year I lost track of how many pickup trucks full of bags of donations were delivered throughout the community. I do know that we ran out of places to put some of the donations because there were so many.”
