Firefighters respond to fire at Pembina LPG Terminal

Firefighters from Port Edward and Prince Rupert were on the scene early Friday morning after a fire broke out on Watson Island.

Crews were dispatched at 2:29 a.m. to the Pembina liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility, where a work camp trailer had caught fire. Due to the highly combustible nature of LPG stored on site, firefighters acted quickly to prevent a potential pressure shift in the tanks that could have caused an explosion.

Port Edward fire chief Jason Giesbrecht said the fire was contained to the trailers and no injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
