U18 Sea Wolves struggle at Prince George tournament

The U18 Prince Rupert Sea Wolves finished with a 1-2-1 record at a four-game tournament in Prince George over the weekend.

The Sea Wolves opened the tournament against Fort St. John. Fisher Witzke scored first for Prince Rupert, but Fort St. John tied the game minutes later.

Owen Davies scored in the first minute of the second period, giving the Sea Wolves a 2-1 lead, but two goals from Fort St. John’s Carter Bahm gave Prince Rupert a 3-2 loss.

In their second game, the Sea Wolves faced Smithers. No goals were scored in the first period, but an early goal in the second from Noah Movold gave the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead. Logan Dickens and Charlie Brown added goals in the third period to seal a 3-0 win.

The Sea Wolves faced Terrace in their third game. Terrace got on the board first with a Cody Culp goal, but Prince Rupert responded with goals from Davies and Jared McMillan to take a 2-1 lead. Terrace then scored five unanswered goals to secure a 6-2 victory.

The final round-robin game was against Kamloops. With neither team advancing to the playoff round, the only thing on the line was pride.

Prince Rupert built an early lead on goals from Witzke, McMillan and Movold. Kamloops stormed back to tie the game with four goals of their own before Davies scored to put the Sea Wolves ahead 5-4. Kamloops’ Jerasyn Cornwell scored late to seal a 5-5 tie.

The Sea Wolves will be back in action Feb. 7 and 8 against the Vanderhoof Bears in Fort St. James.
