Prince Rupert Port Authority invests to upgrade maternity ward

The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) has invested $125,000 in the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital to improve the maternity ward.

This investment comes from the ports community investment fund and will improve essential maternity services for newborns and parents.

The funds will provide the hospital with a new fetal heart monitor, two isolette incubators, a new security door and a space were parents with other children can attend pre- and post- assessments more comfortably.

The Prince Rupert Regional Hospital sees approximately 175 births each year and supports Prince Rupert parents as well as surrounding indigenous communities including Haida Gwaii.

The investment will allow Prince Rupert residents to receive modernized health care locally, said PRPA interim president Kurt Slocombe.

“Well-equipped, modern hospital spaces are essential to delivering high-quality care and supporting the healthcare professionals who provide it. This investment helps strengthen local maternity services and supports families during one of the most important moments in their lives.”
