Boil water notice issued for Sandspit

Residents of Sandspit are being urged to boil their water because of a potential increase in contamination during planned maintenance.

The North Coast Regional District said planned maintenance on the Sandspit community water system could cause low water pressure, which may lead to increased turbidity and the issuance of a boil-water notice.

The notice was put in place March 16 and will remain until further notice. The NCRD advises residents to boil any water used for brushing teeth, drinking or washing produce.

The notice is a precautionary measure. While elderly people and those with underlying medical conditions are most at risk, all residents are advised not to consume tap water unless it has been boiled first.

After the scheduled maintenance is complete, water-quality sampling will be conducted to ensure the notice can be safely lifted.
