Northern Savings Credit Union in Prince Rupert is advising residents that construction on a new branch is set to begin.
As larger banks close in the North, such as BMO in Prince Rupert, Northern Savings said it wants to expand.
“While chartered banks have begun closing branches and reducing services in rural areas, Northern Savings is continuing to strengthen our ties in the North. Over the last twenty-five years, Northern Savings has constructed new facilities in Terrace and Daajing Giids, and performed extensive renovations to our Masset branch,” the company said.
“We have engaged local contractors for this project, and although preparatory work is in its early stages, we wish to be transparent about our intent to proceed. We still require several conditions to be satisfied before we will be able to move forward with construction. This includes work with the City of Prince Rupert and other parties.
Please be mindful and exercise caution regarding any changes to traffic patterns and the presence of heavy equipment in the area.
We look forward to sharing future updates with the community and thank you for your support.”
Northern Savings also said the project has been years in the making and thanked the community for its support.
“Over the past several years, we have been working with an architectural design firm, contractors, and the City of Prince Rupert to move forward with the intention of constructing a new branch, insurance, financial planning, and corporate office in Prince Rupert. Our Prince Rupert community has supported us for over 86 years, and we are thrilled to be working towards giving back to our community through this extraordinary investment.”
