Metlakatla Band Council to ease gas prices for members

Metlakatla Band members can expect to get some relief at the gas pump as the band plans to offer fuel subsidies of up to 10 cents per litre.

The new subsidy takes effect immediately and adds to a subsidy of about 15 cents provided by the Metlakatla Development Corp. and a 10-cent Canada-wide freeze of the fuel excise tax, bringing total savings for Metlakatla Band members to about 35 cents

Members can access the subsidy by presenting a valid membership status card at the Grassy Bay Petro-Canada station in Prince Rupert. The band says the subsidy will be offered exclusively through Petro-Canada and will be in effect until March 31, 2027.

The band hopes the subsidy will ease the financial burden on its members, said Chief Robert Nelson

“We hope this initiative helps ease some of the current cost pressures for our members. If you have any questions, please reach out to our office.”
