Investigation finds no criminality in death of Klemtu elder

An investigation into the death of an elderly man in Klemtu has concluded that no criminal act was involved.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Section provided an update this week, bringing an end to an investigation that began in September 2025.

On Sept. 21, 2025, police received reports that there was a possible assault after they found a man who had suffered injuries lying beside a road in Klemtu.

As the cause of the man’s injuries was unknown at the time, the BC RCMP Major Crime Section became involved in the investigation.

After a lengthy investigation, investigators determined that there was no criminal involvement in the man’s injuries or death.

The case had raised concerns in Klemtu, where residents were looking for answers around the incident.

“While this incident was understandably concerning for the community and led to speculation, we hope that this update provides clarity and brings a measure of closure and reassurance to those affected,” said Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the BC RCMP Major Crime Section.

With the investigation now complete, police have confirmed there are no criminal concerns related to the man’s death.
