Prince Rupert to host first Marine Careers Expo in Northern B.C.

People interested in careers on the water will have a chance to explore opportunities in Canada’s marine sector this weekend as the Marine Careers Expo makes its Northern B.C. debut in Prince Rupert.

The event will take place Sunday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cow Bay Marina and will bring together government agencies, marine employers and training organizations to showcase career opportunities in the industry.

Visitors can take part in interactive demonstrations, view equipment exhibits, tour vessels and speak directly with employers and industry representatives about careers in both the public and private marine sectors.

Organizations participating in the expo include the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation, and many marine industry employers and seafaring organizations from across British Columbia.

One of the event’s highlights will be public tours of Royal Canadian Navy ORCA-class patrol vessels and the Canadian Coast Guard Ship M. Charles M.B., which will be docked at the marina throughout the event.

Organizers say the Marine Careers Expo was created to help address ongoing labour shortages across Canada’s marine sector by connecting employers with potential workers and increasing awareness of training and career pathways.

The Prince Rupert event marks the first time the expo has been held in Northern British Columbia after a successful inaugural year elsewhere in the province in 2025.

Members of the public can expect an increased presence of marine personnel and activity around Cow Bay Marina during the event.
