New Save-On-Foods store breaks ground in Prince Rupert

Construction is officially underway on a new Save-On-Foods store in Prince Rupert.

The City of Prince Rupert said Jim Pattison Developments has received its building permit and broken ground on the new store on George Hills Way.

Once completed, the store will be operated by Pattison Food Group, a sister division of the Jim Pattison Group.

The project represents a significant private-sector investment in Prince Rupert and is expected to bring additional employment, services and investment to the community.

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond called the groundbreaking a major milestone for the city and a sign of confidence in its future.

“This is transformational change that people can see happening in their community,” Pond said. “Breaking ground on the new Save-On-Foods is about much more than one development; it is a sign of confidence in Prince Rupert and the direction our community is heading.”

Pond said the city has worked to create conditions that support investment and growth, adding that he believes the project could be the beginning of more development in the community.

Jim Pattison Developments President David Bell said the company is excited to reach the construction stage after being part of the Prince Rupert community for many years.

“We have been proud to be part of the Prince Rupert community for many years, and we are thrilled to reach this milestone and begin construction on the new Save-On-Foods,” Bell said.

Bell said the project reflects the company’s confidence in Prince Rupert and its future, adding that the company looks forward to delivering a new store for the community.

The City said the project is another step in the continued development of the Cow Bay area and looks forward to watching the new store take shape.
