The Earl Mah Aquatic Centre is closed for annual maintenance to ensure safe swimming conditions.
Annual maintenance is done to keep the pool running safely and prevent prolonged closures due to equipment failure.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular pool maintenance is crucial for the safety of all swimmers.
“Poor maintenance can result in low disinfectant levels that can allow the spread of a variety of germs that cause diarrhea as well as skin and respiratory illnesses.”
Keeping good records helps ensure pool safety, said the B.C. government.
“Good record-keeping helps develop a historical record that can be used to resolve problems, track chemical use, troubleshoot unexpected results and respond to adverse events. For example, it is very helpful to know the exact amounts of chemical required to affect a particular amount of change in pool chemistry.”
The pool is scheduled to reopen on Aug. 29.
