Udderly hilarious: Udderfest returns to Prince Rupert

“By the pricking of my thumbs, something entertaining this way comes,” or, in modern English, Udderfest is returning to Prince Rupert Aug. 13.

Udderfest is Prince Rupert’s annual fringe theatre festival, a five-day theatre experience that shows nine different plays over the course of the event.

Chrystopher Thompson, Prince Rupert Harbour Society board member, said this event is something special.

“There’s so much to love. It’s going to be a week jam-packed full of live theatre, which us super special, especially right now. I feel like there’s so much AI slop going on that just enjoying a lot of human-to-human, just living, breathing performances and you get to do it right here in Prince Rupert.” said Thompson.

Not every community has an event like Udderfest, said Thompson.

“Most small communities don’t have a theatre community that’s as vibrant as this one.  You’d have to go to a place like Vancouver before you found a fringe festival that has as many acts as Udderfest. So I really hope that people take full advantage of this opportunity.”

Udderfest began in 1999 and has taken place every year since (excluding 2020).

The nine plays that will be shown are “Immortal Stalemate – The Eternal Dance”, “Play It Till the Cows Come Home”, “Chaos Coffeeshop”, “Adjudication”, “The Second to Last Spike”, “I’ve Seen This Before” and the local improv troupe Hook Line and Snicker.

Longtime Harbour Theatre board member, Lyle McNish, said that some shows may not be suitable for all viewers.

“War of Wits is a 10 p.m. show. And as a result, it’s an unscripted debate show and it can have  subject matter that’s mature in content and potentially coarse language.”

Tickets can be purchased at Homework in packages of four.

Shows run from August 13 to 18.
