Metlakatla receives funding for firehall upgrades

The Metlakatla First Nation will address fire safety concerns with the help of $135,000 in funding from the Northern Healthy Communities Fund.

The money will go toward purchasing personal protective equipment for the community’s fire hall.

The Metlakatla Nation has signed two pipeline agreements with the provincial government, which has caused major economic growth. With the growth in their local economy, major safety concerns have arisen in regards to fire safety.

So far in 2025, the NHCF has provided $5.6 million to First Nations and non-profits across Northern B.C.

Proper protective equipment helps firefighters work more effectively and improves safety in the broader community.
