Ridley Island Energy Export Facility receives critical components

Construction of the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) continues to progress as planned with the arrival of several key components.

Three components for the REEF project were delivered this week, including an accumulator and two large, cylindrical storage vessels known as bullets. The accumulator is the first of three to arrive and is meant to provide refrigerated storage for propane and butane. The accumulators are the largest of their kind globally and can hold the equivalent of 12 Olympic-sized swimming pools, or about 30 million litres.

The two bullets will maintain pressure and allow for the storage of products before they are loaded onto a vessel for delivery to Asian markets.

The project is made possible thanks to many partnerships, said AltaGas

“We know big projects aren’t built alone. With our joint-venture partner Vopak, our team and contractors, Indigenous and local communities, we can continue to build major projects and elevate Canada’s export platform.”
