Charles Hays senior girls Volleyball earns 14th place in the province

The Charles Hays senior girls volleyball team (CHSS) battled hard placing 14th at the AA girls provincial championship in Kelowna.

The girls opened the round-robin against DP Todd losing the first set 25-14 and the second set 25-23. The second game of the tournament was much closer as CHSS matched up against Pacific Christian. CHSS lost the first set 25-15 but took the second set 25-19, however CHSS lost the deciding third set 16-14. In the final game of the round-robin against Southern Okanagan, CHSS dropped the first set 25-19 but won the second set 25-20. For the second straight game, CHSS dropped the deciding set 15-10. Despite losing all three games CHSS had a guaranteed spot in the playoffs.

In the round of 16 CHSS lost three straight sets to the eventual champions, Unity Christian. CHSS lost 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13 in the three sets respectively. After the round of 16 loss, CHSS entered the consolation bracket going up against Vancouver Christian. Now back to a best-of-three in the consolation bracket, CHSS lost the first set 25-14 and took the second 25-23 but again lost the third set 15-8.

Following the loss to Vancouver Christian, CHSS was playing for placement and could finish 13th at best and 16th at worst.

In the first placement match CHSS had a round-robin rematch against Southern Okanagan. CHSS got their revenge on Southern Okanagan as they took the game in two sets, winning 25-19 and 27-25 earning a spot in the 13th/14th placement game against DP Todd. DP Todd won the game in dominant fashion with set wins of 25-13 and 25-17 to earn 13th place while CHSS earned 14th place in the loss.

While 14th place isn’t what CHSS was hoping for, they played seven great games and worked as a team and improved upon last year’s 16th place finish.
