Prince Rupert Port Authority president honoured for nearly three decades of service

Shaun Stevenson, president and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA), was recognized by Prince Rupert city council during his final presentation before retirement.

Stevenson has been an employee of the Prince Rupert Port Authority since 1997. In 2007, Stevenson became vice-president of trade development and public affairs before being named CEO and president in 2018. In his time with the PRPA Stevenson helped to grow the industry in Prince Rupert and helped to make the port the ideal port for shipping goods to Asia.

Stevenson has been a huge part in the city’s growth as well, said Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond.

“Today, without the port of Prince Rupert there really is no city of Prince Rupert and conversely without the city of Prince Rupert there’s no Port of Prince Rupert. We are inextricably linked together with that growth curve, I have had the pleasure of having a front row seat for a whole lot of it.”

Stevenson announced his decision to retire at the end of this year after 28 years with the port. The City of Prince Rupert thanked Stevenson for his dedication to growing the port. Stevenson made a tremendous sacrifice to help grow the port, said Pond.

“There’s just so much of what happened there that’s got your fingerprint all over it. And it comes at a tremendous personal cost in that you have spent years of your life now on airplanes, sleeping in beds away from your kids, away from your family and away from major life events.”
