The Village of Daajing Giids is asking the provincial government to expand child care spaces on school grounds following the closure of its only licensed daycare.
The village sent a letter to the provincial Minister of Education and Child care, Lisa Beare, requesting an expansion of child care spaces on school grounds.
To combat the Village’s challenges, they are asking the provincial government to work with the Haida Gwaii School District to support children and families. The Village of Daajing Giids said they are hopeful the government will engage with them.
“Children and youth are important, and we all agree safe and engaging spaces for them are central to their growth and development. We are encouraged by the Province’s efforts to enable child care within public schools and are hopeful that families in Daajing Giids and southern Haida Gwaii will benefit from these opportunities. We look forward to Haida Gwaii School District’s engagement in this important work.”
