The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) saw more cargo go through their facility in 2025, according to their cargo volume report.
Foreign cargo volumes across all terminals increased by 14 per cent, totalling approximately 3.2 million tonnes. Nearly every terminal saw growth, with the Fairview Container Terminal posting the largest gain — a 20 per cent rise, or about 1.5 million tonnes.
The Prince Rupert Grain Terminal saw an eight per cent increase to its volume despite barley volume dropping 62 per cent thanks to an 18 per cent increase in wheat and the introduction of oats to the terminal.
The Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) saw a six per cent increase in volume while the Westview Wood Pellet Terminal and Watson Island Terminal saw three per cent and one per cent increases respectively. The Trigon Pacific Terminal saw an 18 per cent increase in volume with large increases to metallurgical and thermal coal offsetting a seven per cent drop in petroleum coke volume.
The only terminal to see a drop in volume was the Prince Rupert Harbour, as log volumes are down nine per cent, which is in line with the rest of the province as the logging industry faces the challenges of softwood lumber tariffs.
The increase in volume is consistent with expansion efforts, said PRPA interim president Kurt Slocombe.
“Our 2025 performance reflects the consistent commitment of the Prince Rupert Gateway’s workforce, terminal operators, CN, and customers. The depth of collaboration between all Gateway partners to unlock capacity, provide greater speed to market, and actively diversify the $60 billion in trade that flows through our Port annually is second to none.”
